Knitting Things specialise in
Bamboo Knitting Needles. Bamboo knitting needles provide a warm and natural touch
for easy knitting. They are smooth to the touch and lightweight, their smooth
surface makes them easy to hold.
Bamboo consists of a lot of tough vertical fibres, bamboo is a natural material with
strength and flexibility which improves with age. The more you knit, the smoother
they become. They are 60% lighter than the same size aluminium needles, so your
hands won't tire - even after hours of knitting.
Bamboo needles are quiet unlike the metal needles, the stitches stay on the needles much
easier and are less likely to slip off.

Broomstick Blanket
Materials:
4 x 50g DK balls of each colour red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet.
4.5mm crochet hook
19mm knitting needle
Abbreviations:
ch(s) = chain(s)
dc = double crochet
lp(s) = loops
st(s) = stitch(es)
yrh = yarn round hook
To Make: Make a basic chain as wide as you wish the blanket to be, ensuring the
number of loops will divide by 5.
Basic Stitch:
1. Make 25chs.
2. Hold the knitting needle under left arm. Place lp from the last ch over the needle.
3. Insert hook into 2nd ch. Draw a lp
through and place it over the needle. See diagram 1.
4. Continue making a lp into every ch (25 sts). Do not turn.
5. Insert hook into 1st 5 lps, yrh and pull through centre of group. See diagram 2.
6. Yrh and pull through the lp making a ch. See diagram 3. (This chain is only worked on
the 1st group.)
7. Work 5 dc into 1st group of 5 lps.
8. Insert hook into next 5 lps, remove from the needle and work 5 dc pulling hook through
remaining loop into the group. See diagram 4.
9. Continue removing loops in groups of 5 to end of row. Place lp from last st on to
needle.
Join in your second colour and place one loop on to the knitting needle. Continue as steps
10 to 12.
10. Still working from left to right, insert hook into 2nd st and pull lp up and on to the
needle.
11. Continue pulling up lps from every st to end of row. See diagram 5.
12. Remove lps from needle as before.
When you feel confident at broomstick knitting, the needle can be removed at the end of
the first row. The loops will remain in place but care must be taken to ensure that they
are not twisted the wrong way.
Complete final stitch and secure end. Darn all ends.
